1. Vietnam visa procedures
According to Circular No. 04/2002/TTLT-BCA-BNG dated January 29, 2010, procedures for applying for a Vietnam visa are prescribed as follows:
– Foreigners applying for a visa must submit an application (according to the prescribed form) to a Vietnamese representative office along with their passport or a document in lieu of a passport (hereinafter referred to as a passport). The remaining validity of the passport must be at least one month longer than the validity of the visa applied for. If applying for a separate visa, the application must clearly state the reason and purpose of the application for a separate visa.
Overseas Vietnamese who need to visit relatives but do not have a passport, if they carry documents issued by a competent foreign authority that are valid for entry and exit and the form of such documents has been officially notified to Vietnam through diplomatic channels, must also apply for a visa according to the above regulations.
– Vietnamese representative agencies issue visas as follows:
– For those who are not invited by any agency, organization or individual in Vietnam, a single-entry visa will be issued for a period of 15 days. Visa issuance will be considered within 3 working days from the date of receipt of the application and passport.
– For Vietnamese people holding foreign passports who want to visit relatives, if there is evidence of having entered Vietnam for the last time no more than 36 months before the date of application for entry, the Vietnamese representative agency will consider issuing a single-entry visa valid for no more than 3 months. The visa issuance is considered within 2 working days from the date of receipt of the application and passport.
– For those who have received a notice from the Immigration Department, the Consular Department or the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City regarding entry, within 2 working days from the date of receipt of the application and passport of the guest, the Vietnamese representative agency shall issue a visa according to the notice.
In case the Vietnamese representative agency discovers that the visa applicant has committed a violation of Vietnamese law or has engaged in activities that are detrimental to national security that have not been detected by domestic authorities, the head of the representative agency must promptly discuss with the agency that notified the visa issuance for consideration and decision.
– For Vietnamese people abroad who do not have a passport and carry the above documents, if they are approved for entry, the Vietnamese representative agency will issue a separate visa.
